Although tuition and student loan debt levels continue to rise among Americans, the College Board recently reported that workers with a bachelor’s degree are better protected from recession layoffs and continue to earn, on average, almost $22,000 more a year than those with only a high school diploma.
College degree holders are less likely to experience lengthy periods of unemployment as well.
As the debate over the true value of a college education rages on – fueled by tuition costs that continue to increase at greater-than-inflation rates – even many of those economists that support alternative means of developing skills admit that a college education does seem to pay off in the long run for the majority of graduates.
