For workaholics, working is almost a primary trait of life. Leaping over any obstacles that obstruct their path of working, workaholics often disregard fundamental values which can result in fatal consequences that could forever turn their lives upside-down. As dramatic as it may sound, pregnancy and workaholics can be recipes for disaster! Whether you are a workaholic or not, the underlining fact of the matter is that working well into your eleventh-hour of pregnancy is just as disruptive to your unborn baby’s health as smoking a cigarette.
Studies conducted are aimed to raise health awareness of expecting mothers and encourage them to take a break from all the hustle and bustle that life throws at their way. Reports published by the Daily Mail condone pregnant women working well into their eleventh-hour of pregnancy. In accordance with their reports, women who worked into their eleventh-hour of pregnancy and deprived their mind and body from the crucial element of rest gave birth to babies who were noted to be half a pound lighter on an average scale than women who took a break from working when they were six to eight months pregnant. So what are the reasons behind this? Speculations are rife that taking maternity leave is likely to relieve fatigue and stress induced by work. This fatigue and stress can have a detrimental effect on the environmental condition of the fetus. Previous studies linked low birth weight to a wide array of developmental barriers later in the course of one’s life. It is important to note that low birth weight is more prevalent in women who were aged 24 and higher and those who worked during the ninth month of their pregnancy.
Theoretically, the idiom ‘no pain, no gain’ should be taken with a pinch of salt during the course of pregnancy. Pregnancy ushers the beginning of a new chapter in our life and we should this enjoy process instead of exposing yourselves to all the hustle and bustle of life.
